Turbo E39 M5

This is my first personal project and was initially completed in 2018. The goal of the project was to create something mechanically and aesthetically unique while maintaining the beautiful factory appearance, and do so in a way that did not require any irreversible and/or significant modifications to the car. While it is possible to install a turbo in the engine bay, the benefit in transient response does not outweigh the combination of fabrication, packaging, and heat management challenges. A street driven E39 M5 lends itself best to a rear mount turbo system, and that's why the choice was made. The car makes 450 wheel horsepower and 450 wheel torque on 93 octane pump gas and has been running with no significant issues for 7 years and 36,000 miles. Over that time, I have identified several improvements that can be made to the setup, all of which will be implemented in a second version, eventually for myself and also for a potential customer who would be excited to have the same.
