Process
Resto-modding any vehicle is a complex task with many moving parts, and BMWs are certainly no exception. Decaf believes that having a carefully considered process with regular communication and detail-oriented project management is key to producing a badass final product. Below is an overview of what you can expect when working with me:
Consultation
After reviewing your initial questionnaire responses, we will meet (in person or over a video call) to discuss your goals for the project in more detail and determine the scope of work to be performed. An estimate and service contract will then be created and sent for approval.
Delivering Your Car
You can drive, ship, or tow your car to Decaf's shop in Arden, NC, just south of Asheville. Decaf can also locate a suitable chassis for you if you do not already own the BMW you have in mind.
Inspection
Upon arrival, Decaf will perform a full inspection your BMW to determine any additional maintenance or upgrades required to support the scope of the project. Any additional work will be documented, estimated, and presented for approval.
Body and Interior
Should the scope of the project include paint or interior work, these operations will be sublet to craftsmen that meet Decaf's high quality standards. All disassembly and reassembly of the vehicle in preparation for such work will be performed at Decaf's facility.
Mechanical
If body work is being performed, any mechanical and interior components will be removed beforehand so that they may be restored or modified in parallel. Decaf works with various craftsmen and suppliers for custom drivetrain configurations, suspension, interior restoration, audio system upgrades, metal refinishing, and more. When required or desired, Decaf also employs 3D scanning, CNC machining, and 3D printing techniques to reproduce NLA parts, modify existing parts, or create entirely new parts.
Reassembly
Your BMW is reassembled in Decaf's facility, all the while subject to high quality standards and attention to detail. Every part or assembly goes through my hands as it goes back on your car.
Final Inspection
& Testing
Your BMW will be driven for several hundred miles to ensure that the project meets the expectations set out in the scope of work. Any deficiencies will be communicated and corrected before delivery.
Delivery
If you choose to drive your newly resto-modded BMW home, you may fly into the Asheville, NC regional airport, conveniently located just 3 miles from Decaf's facility. Alternatively, you may arrange a shipping service to pick up the vehicle and have it returned to you. You will be provided with additional documentation related to the operation and maintenance of any modified components or systems.
